RECONCILING MINISTRY
Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors
We welcome all people on their journey of faith, and celebrate all ages, physical conditions, ethnicities, races, gender identities, sexual orientations and backgrounds. We support each other in our ministries to one another, the community and the world.
Epworth United Methodist Church is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, a national grassroots organization that mobilizes United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to transform our church and the world into the full expression of Christ’s inclusive love.
Many years ago, John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, tried to save the life of a man condemned to be executed for loving another man. When Wesley was unable to have the death sentence overturned, he continued offering his prayers and support, and rode with him to the gallows - despite the social stigma. Clearly, he saw in the man a beloved child of God, with a soul of infinite sacred worth. At Epworth, we follow his example.
What does the Bible say?
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is made complete in us.
I John 4:7-9, 11-12
