Michael J. Christensen has recently been appointed as Lead Pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church. Michael comes to us from Drew University where he  is currently Director of the Shalom Intiative for Prophetic Leadership and Community Development ; and International Director of Communities of Shalom for The United Methodist Church.  In a special “yoked” appointment Pastor Michael will lead Epworth as well as remain the leader of Communities of Shalom which trains, equips and promotes over 100 “shalom zones” engaged in social justice, community organizing and community development in the world. As Affiliate Professor of Spirituality in the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew, he teaches spirituality and religious studies. We are very grateful to have Michael as our Pastor.

Michael is married to Dr. Rebecca Laird and they have two grown daughters.

Brian Adkins, Associate Pastor

Brian is Master of Divinity student at Pacific School of Religion. Aside from his work as Associate Pastor at Epworth, he is also the Pastor of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Richmond, CA. He is originally from Ohio, where he grew up on a small farm among his extended Appalachian family. Before moving to San Francisco in 2007 to work with a humanitarian relief organization, Brian served as a faith-based community organizer and an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. In 2010, he participated in the SoulForce Equality Ride, a traveling forum exploring issues of faith and justice. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Reconciling Ministries Network. He is a member at Glide Memorial UMC.
