For 12 years, Epworth volunteers have cooked and served dinners at the Berkeley Men’s Shelter on the 2nd Sunday and 3rd Monday of each month. Contact Kit Schweizer (schweizerk@comcast.net) or Greta Fillingim (gretafillingim@hotmail.com) for more information or to volunteer.
Berkeley Food and Housing Project
For 35 years, the Berkeley Food and Housing Project (BFHP) has worked to ease and end the crisis of homelessness for men, women, and children in the Berkeley community. With seven programs ranging from free meal service to permanent supportive housing, BFHP provides a continuum of care to accommodate a broad spectrum of specialized needs.
Quarter Meal Sunday
On the first Sunday of the month, we collect quarters to support the Berkeley Food & Housing Project’s Quarter Meal. Every day the project serves nutritious evening meals to about 100 homeless or hungry persons in Berkeley.
Gifts for the Forgotten
Each Advent Epworth supports Gifts for the Forgotten through the Berkeley Food and Housing Project. Donations go toward providing holiday gift bags, each containing a warm hat, a scarf, thick socks, and two sets of gloves, distributed to homeless and needy persons in Berkeley.
Berkeley Food Pantry Offering
On the second Sunday of each month we collect non-perishable food for the Berkeley Food Pantry. Donations are received at the entrance to the sanctuary. Contact George Billing, (925) 999-9142.
Alameda County Food Bank
During the seasons of Lent (6 weeks preceding Easter) and Advent (5 weeks preceding Christmas) we have a barrel from the Alameda County Food Bank to be filled with healthy non-perishable foods.
Epworth members actively participate in the annual AIDS Walk, CROP Walk and the Waves to Wine bike ride to raise funds for research on Multiple Sclerosis. Epworth projects and contributions support the Heifer Project, Africa University, and worldwide connectional ministries.
